Hurstbridge
Frequently asked questions:
What is this period of recess and what does it mean?
A Landcare group may enter a formal period of recess due to various challenges that prevent the group from operating as normal.
What this means is that the group will not operate during the elected period and any correspondence will be managed by a caretaker, often a Landcare Facilitator.
Why has this happened?
This has occurred due to Hurstbridge Landcare not having enough volunteers to form a functional committee.
Why not just close the group down?
Shutting down a group involves shutting down all of their assets such as bank accounts, emails etc. Once these are closed off it can be difficult to re-establish. Therefore, going into recess allows for a simple transition to a new committee if one is formed.
What is involved in forming a new committee?
The three main roles in a Landcare committee are President, Treasurer and Secretary with additional General Members. Some groups may have additional roles to the main three. In order to re-establish Hurstbridge Landcare we would need a minimum five members to form a new committee.
This ensures that the workload of running the group is evenly distributed among the members.
I would like to be a part of forming a new committee. Who should I speak to?
Contact Nillumbik’s Landcare Facilitator this can be done on the Contact Us page of this website.
The facilitator will discuss what the next steps are.
Will the new committee be supported in re-establishing the group?
Yes! The new committee members will be supported by Nillumbik’s Landcare Facilitator to ensure the group feel comfortable in the requirements as part of forming the new committee. The group will continue to be supported by the Landcare Facilitator beyond re-establishment of the group.
How much of my time will being on a committee require?
It is hard to give an exact number; there may be some additional time commitments required early on as we re-establish the group. However, once that is complete the new committee will be able to discuss their level of commitment including how often they will hold meetings. There are also Network meetings held quarterly with the other groups chaired by the Landcare Facilitator.
I am interested in helping, but I am still not sure and have a few questions. Who should I speak to?
Contact Nillumbik’s Landcare Facilitator this can be done on the Contact Us page of this website.
The facilitator will be more than happy to answer any questions about what is involved.
What will happen after the 12 month period?
No decision has yet been made about the future of Hurstbridge Landcare. A decision will likely be made closer to the date.

Purpose
Our purpose is to enhance our unique, beautiful natural landscapes, and rich biodiversity of which we are a part.
We work to enhance our local landscape and biodiversity on private land by providing advice and education, facilitating on-ground projects and building a community of people supporting sustainable land management.
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Wurrundjeri Woi Wurrung people, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging. We recognise their stewardship of this land over thousands of years and that this land was never ceded.
We welcome anyone who is interested in helping to look after the land by way of planting, weeding, protecting indigenous species, writing, photography..….. You do not need to live on an acreage property yourself to be part of our group.
